Day 13 – The Wonder of Wisdom

“Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.” ~Proverbs 4:6-7

We reap what we sow.  I’m sure you’ve heard this saying at some point in your life.  Decision by decision we determine our life’s harvest. When my life was particularly difficult, I had to look no further than the decisions I had made. There were numerous times I followed my own plans, but God is merciful.  “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21  He gave me opportunity after opportunity to return to Him, follow His will and sow again with wisdom.  Take a look at the harvest in your life.  What do you see? Is it time for you to sow again?

When life is draining our energy, it’s usually a signal to stop and reevaluate the decisions we’ve made.  When our decisions are drived by fear, worry, anger, ego, unforgiveness, pride, etc., it’s time to go to God in total surrender and allow His Holy Spirit to help us sow again.  God’s mercies are new everyday.  Everyday we’re alive, we have an opportunity to make a different choice. And God never leaves us to do this alone.  He has given us His Holy Spirit to guide us.  All we have to do is ask for help. “If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought…” James 1:5-8 MSG .  God has also blessed us with the wisdom of scripture. We can depend on the Holy Spirit to open our eyes so that we can understand the wisdom of God’s holy words. “These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:10

God doesn’t want us to be paralyzed when making decisions.   He gave us His Holy Spirit and scripture to help us in making wise decisions.  Scripture tells us that this wisdom is precious and it protects us. “Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.” Proverbs 4:6-7  When we’ve prayed and consulted the wisdom of His Holy Spirit, and His word, we make the best decision we can with the comfort of knowing that God is the Good Shepherd. He’ll gently redirect us if we veer off the path because we’ve given Him priority in our hearts.

Seeking God’s wisdom, rather than relying on our own understanding, requires patience.  It requires spending time getting to know God’s ways and His word. And based on scripture, this is exactly where we want to be.  “Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace…”  Proverbs 3:13-18 ESV

Prayer: Father, I magnify your holy name. You are so wise. You know my end from my beginning. You know the way I should go. Help me to seek you before I make any decisions. Increase my sensitivity to the Holy Spirit who guides me with your wisdom. Help me not to be paralyzed in my decision-making. May I remember that you are the Good Shepherd, and your rod and staff will comfort me and lead me in the right direction. I ask these things in the blessed name of your beloved son, Jesus. Amen.
